Northern Malawi flooding as seasonal rains intensify

The Story

The Story

In northern Malawi an increase in the intense and unpredictable seasonal rains has led to worsening flooding. This flooding leads to damage to rural roads, public and commercial buildings and housing. It has a profound and adverse impact on the smallholder farmers and their families faced with the repair of this infrastructure while maintaining crop harvesting and the routines of life.

The effect of both wind and rain is clear from the damage seen to local housing in the rice growing region of Kaporo in northern Malawi.
